VOICE OVER IP COMMUNICATION PLATFORMS
VOIP is an acronym for Voice Over Internet Protocol. Any phone used to make a call has a protocol it uses to transmit our voice. Cell phones, home phones, and commercial phone systems all sample our voice and send it over a specific protocol for the type of service or device we are using. The VOIP protocol transmits our voice inside of data packets instead of through electrical impulses like older and less capable phone systems. The confusing part about VOIP is that it doesn't need the internet in order to make calls. A VOIP phone system can be installed in an office with standard phone lines with no need for any internet connectivity. Reliable business lines connected to the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) and the Mitel IP controllers have a 99.999% reliability rating. Today, this is the preferred installation method for the main phone lines, since many VOIP service providers can not provide a reliability rating this high, day in and day out. There are a lot more details to VOIP that are not discussed here, but feel free to contact us for more information.
